The HET Region of CSETS oversees the funding for the Cowichan Tribes, Chemainus First Nation, Lake Cowichan First Nation, Halalt First Nation, Lyackson First Nation, Penelakut First Nation, and Hiiye’yu Lelum House of Freindship. There is one representative from each community that sits on the HET Committee. The committee hosts an election every three (3) years and elects two (2) representatives to sit on the Board of Directors of CSETS. Presently representing the HET region at the Board table are Fred George of Cowichan Tribes and Debbie Williams of Hiiye’yu Lelum House of Freindship.
Allocation funding to all the Communities of the HET Region and Hiiye’yu Lelum House of Friendhsip has all been committed and approved at the Committee level. Programs at the community levels have commenced and some have completed.
The summer programs for the HET Region have all completed and were very successful. Congratulations to all of the communities who have trained through work experience youth workers that facilitated and coordinated the youth summer programs in your communities. Communities have held programs over the summer such as Youth Summer Camps, Rec and Reading Camps, Youth Work Experience programs. All were very beneficial and they have workers who gained experience and knowledge and have either returned to school or sought out work. It was a very productive summer for the youth and children duirng the summer months in supporting programs for them and the communities.
The 2009 Coast Salish Games and the Youth Conference were hosted in the HET Region by Cowichan Tribes community. The HET Communities also sent a number of youth and children to 2009 Youth Conference and Coast Salish Games. This was a very successful turn out and without the support of CSETS staff, communities, other organizations and volunteers this event wouldn’t have been as successful as it was. Huy chq’u to all those who pitched in and helped make this a successful event.
