5 Year Business Planning

March 15th & 16th, 2010 Kopthut  had their first Strategy Sessions for the development of a 5 year business plan, which is a requirement for Service Canada.  For these sessions we had the Chiefs of all the communities attend the sessions for their zones with only a couple of regrets.  It is always key, to have leadership involved and part -take in the future planning for their communities. There were also representatives from each community that were appointed by their leadership/management to attend.

Meetings have continued to date in the 5 year Business Planning and are going great to meet our deadline of June 30th for the 1st draft to be submitted.

Service Canada has implemented a new strategy template for the AHRDA’s to design their programs around.  There are 3 Strategic Priorities that we are to follow and they are:

  1. Demand driven skills development – training to employment
  2. Partnership with the private sector and across the whole of government
  3. Accountability for improved results

Key in these 3 priorities is that we have to focus on Training to Employment

Meaning we have to move towards training that will enable clients to be employed after their training is complete.  We have to also be very diligent with the indicators of success, measurement methods and how we record the successes of the training.

The Socio-demographic profiles for each of the communities is coming together but will need more work to achieve the full outcome we are looking for. We have also been looking at the Labour Market Analysis of each of the Zones and their municipalities.  We have compiled a list of High Opportunity Occupations for each of the Zones and would like to see training towards the high opportunity occupations start to take shape. We are doing stats gathering of information from each community that is needed for the 5 year business plan and hope to achieve this prior to the first draft being submitted.

Each Zone has identified barriers and client needs and how do we address these within each of our communities and through partnerships with each other as “One People”.  Supporting each other and working together is playing a HUGE part in achieving what works for our people.  With continual work as one people we hope to overcome a lot of the barriers that we have come up against.

The groups for the Kop’thut and HET Zones have been working very hard in the development of the new Strategic Plan set out by Service Canada and will continue to do so for our communities.

Following are examples of Program and Service Priorities that were laid out by Kop’thut and HET and keep in mind this is the first step.  There is more work to come and we will keep you, the communities, updated.
