Essential Skills
Our Logo - Spulquitth’e’ (Owl) was designed by Stuart Pagaduan
“The elders say that the owl is very respected and knows all the history. The owl spirit brings wisdom and knowledge and will always give you the right answers. They are old and wise and can live to be over 100 years old. The owl spirit will help you to make the right decisions. They are also known as a messenger, and will give you warning of any danger coming to your home. The owl is a good omen and protector.”
As told to Earnest Rice Jr.
The Coast Salish Employment and Training Society received funding from the Office of Literacy and Essential Skills (HRSDC) to develop the Coast Salish Literacy and Essential Skills Assessment Tool Kit. The project runs from January 1, 2010 until June 29, 2012.
The purpose of the Assessment Tool Kit will be to have a First Nations Literacy and Essential Skills Assessment, developed by First Nations and to be used in our nineteen First Nations communities and three Friendship Centres. The Tool Kit will be developed in a holistic manner; in this way we be able to address barriers experienced by our community members when they are taking steps to further their education and/or move toward pre-employment training.
Our partners in this project are Nuu-chah-nulth Employment and Training Program and Vancouver Island University.
We will up-date this page as our Project develops. We can be reached at the CSETS Duncan office at 250-746-0183.
